What is Canthoplasty?

Wide, bright eyes help you make a good first impression. When the eyes are small and the inner and outer corners are covered by skin, it can give the impression of being somewhat stuffy. Canthoplasty is a procedure that involves making incisions at the inner and outer corners, as well as the lower part of the eye, to enhance both its width and length. Some Asians may have Mongolian folds. In that case, a medial epicanthoplasty is recommended. If the horizontal length of the eyes is too short, it can be expanded with lateral canthoplasty.

Medial Epicanthoplasty

Medial epicanthoplasty is a surgical procedure that removes the Mongolian folds,
enhancing the horizontal length and creating a more refreshing and natural eye shape.

Surgical procedure

Assess the hooded eyes
with Mongolian folds.

Marking and designing the incision site considering the ratio of the face and eyes.

The Mongolian fold in the inner eye is incised and sutured along the inner canthus.

Lateral Canthoplasty

Extend the outer corners of the eyes to widen them and adjust the angle to achieve the desired shape.

SurgicalProcedure

Assess the hooded eyes with Mongolian folds.

The crease and the incision site for the lateral canthoplasty is marked.

The inner conjunctiva is cut, removed from the back of the eye, and firmly fixed to the periosteum.

Suture the incisions precisely to achieve fresh-looking eyes with minimal visible scarring.

Cat-Eye Surgery

Extending the eye’s tail while raising its angle to give the eyes a more feminine and alluring appearance.

Does Canthoplasty leave a lot of scars?

Scars may be visible for up to a month after surgery, but they gradually fade and are nearly invisible after 6 months.

Is there a limit to how much skin can be trimmed in a Canthoplasty?

The extent of incision that can be made depends on the shape of the eyes. If you go too far, the mucous membrane of the eye may be exposed, and scars may become visible. As a result, after consulting with a specialist, it is advised to proceed within the appropriate range.

Can a double eyelid surgery and a canthoplasty be performed together?

Canthoplasty alters the angle of the inner corner of the eyes or the tail of the eyes. The double eyelid crease can also be connected naturally to create the desired double eyelid crease. We recommend doing them together if you want more effective results.

After undergoing a canthoplasty, can it be reattached?

Side effects of reattachment can occur due to a lack of technical knowledge.
