What is Forehead Lift?

A forehead lift (also called a brow lift) is a cosmetic procedure that repositions your forehead to raise the brows, reduce wrinkles, and improve frown lines.

The forehead is the first area where wrinkles become visible. When the forehead starts to sag down after it loses its elasticity, it may speed up the aging of the entire upper face, including sagging brows and eyelids, as well as wrinkles between the brows and eyes. A forehead lift increased the vertical height between your eyes and brows and creates a more youthful and alert appearance.

There are two types of the surgery depending on the degree of wrinkles and skin elasticity. The surgeries are endoscopic forehead surgery and forehead reduction.

Why are the Upper Facial Area and the
Brow-to-Eye Ratio so Important?

When the ratio of the upper, middle, and lower area of the face is 1:1:0.8, it is considered as a golden ratio. If the forehead is too wide, it breaks up the proportion of the balanced face and makes your face look old.

Likewise, the eyebrow-to-eye ratio is also an important factor. If the forehead is severely sagging and the distance between the brows and eyes narrow down, it creates a frowning expression that gives off a strong and fierce impression. Furthermore, the eyelids being pressed down could create an older and tired-looking appearance.

If the upper face is lifted by forehead lift, forehead wrinkles can be reduced and the overall brows can be raised. It is possible to correct drooping eyes without undergoing double eyelid surgery.

What is an Endoscopic Forehead/Brow Lift?

This surgical method is appropriate for the ones who want to improve the forehead wrinkles and drooping eyebrows without visible scar.

This procedure involves inserting an endoscope through 3 to 5 small incisions hidden inside the hairline of the forehead. With widely dissection, retaining ligaments are released and the muscles responsible for furrowing the brows are resected.

Lastly, the soft tissue of your forehead is redraped and resuspended with endotine.

Surgical Procedure

Make 3 to 5 small incisions inside the hairline so that no scars are visible.

The FULL HD endoscope will be used to confirm the position of the nerves and blood vessels before gently dissects the sagging forehead.

Place the endotine in the deep fascia or the skull, pull the drooping forehead, and secure it.

By improving the wrinkles between the brows, around the eyes, and on the eyelids, a resilient face shape is completed.

What is Endotine?

Endotine is a medical device approved by the Korean Ministry of Food and Drug Safety and the US FDA. It is a special medical material made of bio-absorbable PLA and PGA materials for safe lifting.

The tissue lifted with Endotine is securely supported while being perfectly fixed so that it does not stretch again, and it is biodegraded in stages and completely absorbed by the body, eliminating the need for a secondary removal surgery later.

Furthermore, by distributing fixed points that are easily centered in one location, the lifting range can be widened, making it more effective and maintaining the semi-permanent lifting effect.

What is Forehead Reduction Surgery?

This surgery is appropriate for those who want to improve complex forehead elasticity and lines, such as removing overall sagging and wrinkles, as well as those whose forehead is too wide or who want to trim their hairline while having an M-shaped forehead.

It is a surgical procedure that reduces the length of the actual upper face by moving the hairline down through a skin incision and excising the excess skin, making the face appear smaller from the front as well as the side.

When incising the hairline, Braun doctors take the direction of hair growth into consideration, so the incision is made at an angle that's opposite to the hair root, resulting in less damage and the ability to create a natural hairline by leaving enough hair on the forehead.

It is possible to reduce the forehead by 1~3cm depending on the elasticity of each individual’s scalp. Furthermore, you can get a more natural and faster forehead reduction than with traditional hair transplantation.

Difference Between Hair Transplant and Forehead Reduction

Hair transplant surgery involves harvesting hair follicles from the back of the head and transplanting them to the front forehead line to reduce the width of the forehead. However, there may be a disadvantage to collecting hair from the back of the head, as well as the inconvenience of having to wait more than 6 months for hair to grow.

As a result, forehead reduction is preferred if you want to adjust the proportions of your face and achieve a more natural hairline correction. Forehead reduction has the advantage of allowing for not only minimal incisions depending on the surgical method, but also reducing the length of the face with immediate results.

FAQ

When can I get a perm and dye my hair after the procedure?

- Generally, it is recommended to do it after about a month. Although, perming or dyeing the hair has no direct effect on the scalp or hair after surgery, it is best to stay away from them since there could be scalp, and hair pulling.

When will the scalp sensation return?

- The sensation of the scalp is greatly reduced after forehead reduction surgery.This is only temporary and usually returns after 6 months or so.

Is it possible to have a forehead reduction or lift surgery more than once?

Because the elasticity of the scalp is not infinite, it varies from patient to patient. With the revision surgery, in case of the forehead lift, it can be done with 60-70% of the size of first surgery. For the forehead reduction, up to second surgery is possible to operate. In most cases, consulting with a specialist is most recommended.

Can hair loss occur after surgery?

The hair root may be stimulated by vibration from surgery, resulting in temporal hair loss. In general, even if temporary hair loss occurs around the incision line, you should not be concerned because it usually recovers after about 4-6 months.
